It's well done, though I supose a critique of it's "Instead of animals" bit is drawing the good old "survival of the fittest card". The fact that in such a world, there is no major difference between animals aside from perhaps greater self awareness, which various human cultures don't really give a hoot about (cultures that eat domestic Cats and Dogs.) and then we as humans tend to consume as much as we can get our hands on, with each advancement in our production making the prior amounts considered frivolous seem less so (while usually also reducing dependency on singular resources.)
